Rayleigh's New water treatment plant opened in June 2010. About 700 households in Rayleigh are on the water system.
The community draws its water from the North Thompson River, which at certain times of the year turns brownish from silt and other matter being carried by the current. In 2004, the community applied for a grant to have a water study done. The request was made for the City of Kamloops to do so on their behalf, and the grant was received.
Rayleigh has long had its own water system, and when it got too bad, bottled water was provided at a local station. But eventually, a more permanent solution was sought. A referendum was held in 2007 on the question of the community building its own water system. It passed, although eventually the method of treatment was changed from membrane to sand filtration.
One year and one day since the Siemens Trident HS Multi-barrier Treatment system began operating, it was opened.
