WWFM IX - Banana Phone! Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

halemeister: Looks like everyone is logged in, and it's time to put this one to rest. Glad to see everyone had a good time and it was nice to meet some of the new people. It's going to be hard to top this performance next year, but I'll try.

By the way, the next WWFM date is May 4, 2013. Yes, as in "May the fourth be with you". Hmmmm.... might have to come up with some kind of Star Wars theme.

Geocache Description:

WWFM – World Wide Flash Mobs – Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events all around the globe, gathering at the same time.

Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher Podcast came up with the WWFM idea after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event. These caching events are intended to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

WWFM History:
Flash Mob I – May 2007 – almost 200 San Diego, CA geocachers; 20 world-wide events
WWFM II – Nov 2007 – 4400 attendees at 83 events in 9 countries
WWFM III – May 2008 – almost 8000 attendees at 163 events in 15 countries
WWFM IV – Nov 2008 – 7400 people at 154 events in 20 countries
WWFM V – May 2009 – over 7000 people at 154 events in 20 countries
WWFM VI – Nov 2009 – almost 7000 people at 152 events in 21 countries
WWFM VII – May 2010 – almost 6000 people at 139 events in 19 countries
WWFM VIII - June 2011 - 9940 people at 215 events in 25 countries

NEXT SCHEDULED: WWFM IX
Saturday June 9, 2012 – 12:00 p.m. CDT

Check out the official Geocaching WWFM webpage for attendee information, news, history, and to view photos and videos from previous WWFM events from around the world!

Just like last year's WWFM, there is a special geocaching souvenir in the works for this event! Team Podcacher has been working with Groundspeak to get a great design approved for the souvenir, but there are no guarantees at the current time. The only way to get this possible souvenir is to attend a WWFM VIII event! For a limited time only, you can purchase special edition WWFM IX trackable geocoins here!

Here is the bookmark list for the other WWFM locations that are going on around the world!

Things you need to know:
1. This event is being held at the food court inside Cherryvale Mall.
2. All attendees wishing to log this event as "attended" need to bring a banana with them. It doesn't have to be a real banana, but it does have to be a regular sized one that can be used as a telephone.
3. This event starts at the stroke of noon and ends abruptly at 12:15! Arrive early, act like muggles and pretend that you're shopping or having something to eat. Do not congregate with other event attendees before noon! The important thing to remember is to blend in with the rest of the people at the mall.
4. When the clock strikes noon, every attendee should start walking around with their banana held to their ear while acting like they're holding a real conversation with someone on the other end. It's important to act as nonchalant as possible! If you cache as a team (example: husband/wife duo), only one of you need to have a banana phone, but the more bananas we can get walking around the food court, the better the effect will be on the muggles who won't be able to figure out what is going on. C'mon, you don't really want to be the only one in the group photo NOT holding a banana, do you??
5. We will walk and talk on our banana phones for a minimum of 5 minutes. Take a few laps around the food court and make a few muggles do a double take at what's going on around them!
6. At 12:07pm, we will all assemble near the escalators that are located between the smoothie place and the new "ChickeNow" restaurant for a group photo. The log will be signed as we get ready for the photo to be taken.
7. After the photo is taken, attendees MUST leave immediately! (even if the photo is taken a few minutes before 12:15pm) This is important in order to give the full effect of the flash mob.

Remember the main idea is to FLASH AND DASH, and of course make sure you have fun too!

This event is 100% wheelchair accessible! Bring the kids! Bring some muggles who want to have some fun! Let's have a big turnout!

Do yourself a favor and watch this video if you have 3 minutes to spare!

*Please DO NOT drop your trackables into this event as there will not be much time to trade or discover them!*
