This is one in a series of caches, some are part of a multicache, some are traditional. They have been illustrated with the help of Thrapston and District Historical Society to take you round the varied history of Thrapston. It is designed to be an easy stroll of a couple of miles and is suitable for children. Take a pencil or pen as some are nanos. Some are on grass so you may get damp feet.
If you’re doing the series, park in the Bull Ring car park (see No.1). There are places you can have tea and cake or several family-friendly pubs in the High Street.
Lazy Acre is a relatively new estate built in the 1990s onwards. Most of the houses were built by Persimmon and David Wilson Homes and the roads are named after castles in the UK.
In the Public Records office, there is a charming 1930s map of Thrapston done by local school children recording the names of all the fields around. Lazy Acre was apparently named because it was very windy; the soil was heavy clay and full of stones making it hard to cultivate. (Having had a house there, I can agree)
