Geocache Description:

DATE: Saturday, April 28, 2012
TIME: 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM
WHERE: Jackson Street Park - Willard, Missouri

This will be the "2nd Annual" Ozark Mountain Geocachers Spring Event. Last year, we had it at McAlister's Deli in Springfield. This year, we will have it cookout-style in the park!

As with last year's event, the purpose for this event is to provide an alternate get-together for local cachers who are not attending the MOGA mega-event but would still like to eat, meet and greet with their fellow cachers.

Please note that this is a "potluck" cookout, which means everyone is asked to bring something if they are going to eat.

Here's a list of food and other items to bring. If you are planning on attending and eating, please post a note to this cache listing and I will update the list below.

This list was last updated at 6:40 AM on Saturday, 4/28/12.

  • Shoney1 will bring several pounds of hamburger meat.
  • chuck80196 will bring hot dogs and brats, and topgun5403 & Co-Pilot Marty will bring hot dogs.
  • Team Seahawk will bring hamburger buns and hot dog/brat buns.
  • xring and Junebug' will bring corn salad.
  • OzarksJim will bring potato and cole slaw salads.
  • darkscotty and Mirror_SoundRL will bring ketchup, mustard, salt & pepper, and coolers with ice
  • memaw&pawpaw49 will bring lettuce, tomatoes and sliced cheese.
  • Team Seahawk will bring onions, dill relish, American cheese, bbq sauce, lettuce.
  • Hillbillyfun will bring Desserts (cookies, brownies, ice cream, etc.), Team Seahawk will bring banana pudding and seskds will bring a couple pies.
  • memaw&pawpaw49 will bring tea.
  • chuck80196 and scienceteacher42 will bring sodas, and Team Seahawk will bring pink lemonade, Ginger Ale and sweet tea. (NOTE: Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the Willard city parks.)
  • Sir Dreward III will bring paper or styrofoam plates, cups, plastic silverware, wayne49464 will bring tablecloths for the benches and johnnkristihead will bring napkins.
  • scienceteacher42 and darkscotty will bring chips.

That's all I can think of. If we can get a big enough group there should be something that everyone can bring. If there's something you'd like to bring that's not on the list please post a note that you'd like to bring it.

Please be sure to bring the appropriate utensils for the dish you are bringing. Otherwise, your food item may not be eaten (Examples: if you bring a salad, please bring a serving spoon; if you bring a watermelon, please bring a knife big enough to slice it).

The GrillMaster for this event is "pawpaw" of memaw&pawpaw49. Some of you may remember that he was the GrillMaster for the 10 Years! event here a couple of years ago and he did such a great job that I've asked him grill again for us.

The pavilion is actually reserved starting at 11 AM, so that should be enough time for setup, etc. Plan to eat around noon-ish.

I am requesting volunteers to help with the setup of the tables, getting cachers signed in when they arrive, and especially to help with the arrangement of the food on the tables so everything is open/unwrapped and ready to go at chow time. Please let me know if you'd like to help.

A table will be made available for trackables.

Finally, I needed to pay $30 to reserve the pavilion, so if anyone would like to contribute to the cost of reserving the pavilion, please see me during the cookout. It would definitely be appreciated, but is also definitely not mandatory.

One of the newest caching hot spots in Missouri is located just south of Willard. I have heard of some cachers attempting to conquer the "101 Dalmatians" and "claws vs. paws" series with 100 finds in one day. I think that goal is achievable (or you could get CLOSE to 100). They are a good mix of easy and challenging caches and could definitely help your numbers.

Or, if your approach to caching is more leisurely, you can take advantage of the many caches located along the Frisco Highline Trail, which is just across the street from the park. The Willard Veterans Memorial, which you will pass as you enter the park, is the first part of my newest multi-cache (the final is located on the trail).

So plan on making this a full day of fun geocaching and good geo-chatting with your fellow cachers during a filling cookout lunch.

Hope to see you on April 28th!
