Geocache Description:

A zork-esk type wherigo. The cartridge can be found here.

Making your own map is highly encouraged!

I have got a few reports from different people that this Wherigo isn't working correctly for Garmin devices, use a Germin device at your own risk and time! It is currently known to work on the Android Wherigo app, and iPhone Wherigo app.

Zork was a text based adventure game that you had to type out commands to do stuff. This was what computer gamers did for fun until games like pong were invented that used graphics (lol). What you had to do was type in commands like "look", "go north", "go south", etc. When you did, the program would try and do the command you typed in.

In most text adventure based games you would come upon a "maze section" where the puzzle was to try and get through it. Looking at the attached sample maze picture, having the map, it would be easy to get to the end of the maze, however, when you played the game all you had to go by was the text describing each zone, if there even was any. The looping arrows meant that going in that direction actually didn't move you in that direction. And one-way arrows made sure you could only take "one path" to reach the end.

How this Wherigo works is similar to just the maze section in a text based adventure game. You start in the zone labeled "Start." Once you enter a zone, the zones that are accessible to you will appear in your locations tab. If you move into another zone, the locations tab will update with new locations like if you moved into a new block in the text adventure. What makes this slightly easier than doing it on a computer is that you yourself have to physically move to the location so I can't trick you with "looping directions" (typing moving north, but in actuality you didn't change locations).

To give you a big hint on how to solve this puzzle is to bring some paper with you and draw yourself a map on where each zone is located and which zones connect to each other. Be careful, there are some one-way links and dead ends. The one-way links will send you to locations earlier in the maze, so you'll have to find your way back to that spot again (thats why to make it easy, start making a map from the start)

The zone "Start" is available from any location, I did this so you can restart at any time and start over in the maze, but with this restarting there is also a warning, if at any time you enter this Start zone, it assumes you want to restart and you WILL lose your place in the maze, so be careful where you walk.

You can find the Wherigo cartridge here.

The difficulty of this cache is mostly related to the possibility of how long it will take to accomplish, some people will be lucky and pick the correct directions in the first go, some will not be so lucky.

The hide difficulty is about 2 stars.

Congratulations to quads and family for FTF.
