Jumping Streets - Young Street Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

onecrazycanadian: Hi,

This cache has been missing or in need of maintenance for an extended period of time. Due to the lack of response toward the needed maintenance since my last contact, I am archiving the cache. If you do happen to complete the maintenance required and wish to activate the cache again just let me know and I will consider unarchiving it once the issue is resolved.

Thanks!

Geocache Description:

This is another cache in the series I’m doing in and around Winnipeg. These series of caches will focus on streets that “jump” and continue on.

This cache is located on Young Street in West Broadway. Young Street runs north/south. It starts at the gates of Balmoral Hall runs north, then it stops or “jumps” over the park beside the Broadway Community Center. It then goes north all the way to where it ends at Notre Dame Avenue.

Young Street was named for cleric George Young (1821-1910) and was created in 1893. In 1842 George Young became a travelling preacher for the Methodist Church. In 1868 he became Superintendant of Methodist missions in the west. He was in the Red River throughout the Riel uprising of 1869-70. During this time George Young supported the Canadian Party. He remained in Winnipeg eight years, for which he saw the original Grace Church (1871), and Zion churches built. He also saw the Wesleyan Institute, the first Methodist educational institution, established in 1873.
