Here is another wonderful area to explore and hike a beautiful Northern California Headlands. Plenty of panoramic vistas and birding are in store for those that make the trek. There are well established trails used by critters of all sorts (Note: 08/20/2020 - some trails have fallen into disuse overgrown but passable) so no bushwhacking needed for this one. Take the trail heading west towards the headlands. Feel free to explore the other trails in the area and the spectacular views from the headlands of the coast. There is a beach at the south end of the headland trail that is easily accessible and a loop trail back to the parking area joins the headland trail at the juncture with the beach. Low tide times often see a flurry of activity for Abalone divers (in season), seaweed harvesting, tide poolers, and fisherman; hikers and locals out for walk can be seen almost any old time. On your journey in the forested areas and on the headlands you may discover deer, many species of birds and wild flowers.
You’ll be walking through a forest of Shore Pines (Pinus contorta), California Wax Myrtle (Morella californica) and Red Elderberry (Sambucus racemosa) trees to this cache. On the discovery list is a small stream and further on a beach with a small water fall for the more intrepid of you. Don’t forget to pick up "Pine Beach within your reach" GC1X7J4 on the way out or on the way back. This is State Park Property and the trails you will be walking are part of this. Should you go exploring off the main trails, some of the smaller offshoot trails in the area lead to private property and homes so please respect their privacy and boundaries.
Co-ords can get a bit wonky in the trees and on cloudy/foggy days but shouldn't normally be a problem. BYOP
Note: Please remember that should you go walking the headlands or exploring beaches to be mindful that these cliffs can be unstable and the ocean treacherous any time but especially during winter storms. Exercise caution and good judgment when exploring out near the edge and at the shoreline. Check for ticks during the season…
Congratulations! cjfb for FTF!
