Geocache Description:

Following a recent resurgence in my interest in cycling, I thought I would start placing some cycling-themed and cycling-related caches in my local area. This is the first of these caches.

The cache is situated along cycle route 47, which extends from Newport to Fishguard, passing through Neath and Carmarthen on its way. This section runs alongside a section of Neath Canal and is around 2 miles from Neath town. As it is on a cycle route the cache can clearly be approached from either direction, however I have also included two parking waypoints for walkers to use. One will give you a slightly shorter walk than the other, so I’ll leave it to you to decide how energetic you are feeling!

At GZ you will find a piece of art commissioned to celebrate the opening of the National Cycle Network. This design was the first of four designs to be commissioned and is entitled ‘The Fossil Tree’ by artist John Mills. Posts of this type are spread all over the cycle network and make for an interesting landmark on a day’s cycling.

Please be careful if bringing children to this cache as it is alongside a waterway with no barrier or fence.

Unfortunately, I do not believe this cache to be wheelchair accessible due to the bike gates installed along the cycle route.
