ITA - La cache è nascosta vicino alla chiesetta/eremo di San Zeno. ENG -The cache is hidden near the church/hermitage of San Zeno.
ITA - Cache "San Zeno ", San Zeno Mt. 534 Cogollo del Cengio. La cache si trova nell'antica chiesetta di San Zeno, situata sul versante Est della valle. La chiesetta edificata sopra la contrada di Casale è raggiungibile a piedi per il sentiero dei “Ronchi alti”. Dalla chiesetta, arroccata sulle pendici del Monte Cengio, si può ammirare l’intera conca di Arsiero e Velo, dove confluiscono le valli del Posina e dell’Astico. La posizione della chiesetta, decentrata rispetto agli abitati di Casale e Schiri-Piangrande conferma che la costruzione non avvenne ad opera dei residenti, che l’avrebbero eretta più vicina alle case, ma come nel caso di S. Agata, è probabile la spinta dall’esterno di realtà religiose. Infatti in un documento del 1014, l’Imperatore Enrico II emanava un privilegio in favore del Monastero di S. Zenone di Verona, nel quale si confermano i possedimenti situati in “Comitatu Vicentino”. Il Mantese commentando questo documento conclude che l’origine di questa chiesetta, come altre nel vicentino va riferita ad antichi possedimenti del celebre monastero veronese e possono sicuramente risalire ad epoche anteriori all’anno 1000. La Chiesetta fu custodita da eremiti fino al 1700 (Romitorio). Nella Prima Guerra Mondiale, il Santuario venne preso in considerazione dall'Esercito Italiano come postazione osservatorio e deposito armi/munizioni. Al tempo della grande guerra questo era un punto molto importante per l'Esercito Italiano, difatti, da qui partivano i soldati in direzione del vicino Monte Cengio. Le testimonianze della guerra sono molte, trincee, ricoveri, e un ex cimitero militare di soldati Italiani sono ricordati da un cippo commemorativo. L'Esercito Austriaco durante la Strafexpedition, quando venne a conoscenza di questa postazione che forniva armi e munizioni alle truppe italiane che si trovavano poco più in alto, non esitò a bombardare tutta la zona riducendo i soldati, la chiesetta e le varie postazioni in polvere... Ovviamente, niente e nessuno si salvò! Tra le varie postazioni nella valle, questa fù quella più colpita data l'importanza che aveva. La chiesetta venne ricostruita anni dopo secondo il disegno originale. E' stato costruito nella parte posteriore della chiesetta un bivacco per gli escursionisti, all'interno troverete tavoli, sedie, una stufa ed altro... Firmate il diario del bivacco che trovate all'interno. Il panorama è spettacolare, ai vostri piedi avete tutta la valle pronta per essere osservata e fotografata, consiglio binocolo e macchina fotografica. Il sentiero non presenta particolari difficoltà, solo gli ultimi cinque minuti di cammino si riveleranno più ripidi. Dal 2010, la parte iniziale del sentiero è diventata la Via Crucis della contrà Casale, dopo la collocazione di quindici capitelli in legno. Il sentiero da seguire è il numero 643 del C.A.I., dal parcheggio auto all'arrivo a San Zeno il tempo di cammino è di 25/30 minuti, con un dislivello totale di Mt. 200 circa, il sentiero è comunque fattibile a tutti. Al ritorno dalla cache, troverete sulla destra poco prima di arrivare all'auto una fontana che vi offrirà un'ottima acqua fresca, impossibile resistere dal rinfrescarsi... La cache è un contenitore ermetico in metallo, contiene il log book una penna e vari piccoli oggetti. Grazie ciao. ENG - Cache "San Zeno", 534 Mt. San Zeno Cogollo del Cengio.
