Geocache Description:

Fishing, Geocaching, Water Safety Games and a viewing of "The Hidden World" a documentary about wildlife on the Naugatuck River, presented by The Naugatuck River Revival Group.

The US Army Corps of Engineers at Hop Brook Lake in Middlebury, CT would like to invite you to Family Fishing & Fun Day. As part of the “National Kids to Parks” initiative, the event will be held rain or shine on May 19, 2012.

Bring the whole family and drop your fishing line in at any time throughout the day.

A geocaching meet and greet and bug swap will be held from 10am – 2pm at the Pines Shelter. There are 16 already established caches and there will be several more new caches (water themed) placed for the 2012 recreation season (some may be kept past the rec season).

There will be Water Safety related games and information at our Water Safety Trailer from 9am – 1pm.

The “Hidden World”, a documentary filmed in areas on the Naugatuck River, depicts never seen before footage of area wildlife in their natural environment. Presented by Kevin Zak of the Naugatuck River Revival Group at Pines Shelter, 1st showing at 9am, 2nd showing at 10am.

Food and beverages will NOT be provided, however, if you choose to bring your own food and charcoal, the Pines Shelter has a large grill and 4 picnic tables that will be available for you to use.

The 536-acre Hop Brook Lake Recreation Area hosts a 21-acre recreational lake, over 40 picnic tables and grills, 4 picnic shelters, 3 volleyball courts, a 535 ft long swimming beach, approximately 25 acres of lawn area and 7-1/2 miles of trails for public use. Three public restrooms are situated throughout the park. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash under 6 ft in length and picked up after. Dog poop bag dispensers are located throughout the park. The facility encourages a carry-in/carry-out policy, however, dumpsters are available for park generated litter.
