The cache is located on Morris Creek in the Sandfly Bay wildlife reserve and can be accessed from the Seal Point Road carpark. Keep an eye out for wildlife. The area is a popular one for sea lions and penguins . Sea lions may occasionally be encountered on the Morris creek track. The stamp is part of the cache, please do not remove it. The stash is in keeping with the theme of the cache. Park at the DOC carpark at the end of Seal Point Road and walk through the gateway, down the graveled track to the viewing platform with the information signs which will tell you about the area and its wildlife. Continue on down the track and steep sand dune to the beach, the steep sandhill is great for sliding down, but the return journey back to the car will not be as sweet. Cross Morris Creek and discover the walking track on the true left bank, this route is marked by orange poles, and will take you past the dunes towards farmland. You may encounter some of DOC’s wooden tunnel stoat traps, baited with eggs, please do not touch these. The cache will be found some 50m inside the reserve boundary. You are looking for a 2l lock safe camo painted box, hidden at ground level, please replace as found. The return journey should take about 1 hour, but this depends on your fitness level.
Quote from D.O.C. brochure: Please keep at least 10 m away from sleeping sea lions, 20 m from active animals and if you are in a group don't surround them. With penguins, please don't linger on the beach below the hide, or anywhere else where they may come ashore. If you encounter a penguin on the beach keep well away and crouch down. If they feel threatened they will not come ashore. Please respect the very special wildlife on this beach.
