Geocache Description:

Placed on the Iowa State University campus in celebration of VEISHEA 2012 and in commemoration of the exciting VEISHEA 1937. This cache can be seen from my dorm room, so turn to the Northeast and wave as you are seeking this cache. It is located just feet off of a paved path. Use caution when seeking this cache, as it is a high muggle traffic area. However, the cache should be hidden well enough to prevent a muggle from happening across it.

In 1935, a water carnival was incorporated into the VEISHEA events. This same year, the swans Lancelot and Elaine were purchased for Lake LaVerne. Many alumni remember the canoe races as a big VEISHEA event. These races began as part of the 1935 water carnival. Two years later, a water circus was implemented as part of the celebration. Part of this exciting event included a trapeze artist performing over a swimming pool.

This and more information can be found at (visit link)

This cache commemorates the 75th anniversary of the 1937 water circus that was so important to VEISHEA's history.

We were a little late on placing this cache, but hopefully it will have been reviewed in time for VEISHEA weekend.

Be sure to enjoy campus and all the great VEISHEA activities if you are here for the celebration.

I've found that approaching from a southern route allows the coordinates to get you close. Start out walking along the drive and when it tells you to go straight west, use your judgement, not the GPSr as interference became a problem when I and a test subject tried to find it. My sister visited me this weekend and she was able to find it by approaching from the south and estimating a location west. If this does not assist people, I'll try to alter the description or maybe use several GPS units to get a wider range of coordinates.

Original prizes include an assortment of local-based items, including a free music album for the first to find or claim it, and a couple items for kids. Be sure not to over stuff the cache and leave room at the top for the lid to go back on. The cache has some weak areas that frequently break, allowing water to dampen the cache.
