Geocache Description:

Travel the back roads and arrive at a village originally named Mourey, renamed Titanic in 1912. According to Bill Barry in his Dictionary of Saskatchewan Place Names , this post office village was named in 1911 after Fr. Maurice Mourey, parish priest at Ste Anne de Carlton. The village began in the 1880s.

The post office was renamed in 1912 and lasted until 1967. It might surprise you that there were over 30 Canadian towns who applied to change their name to Titanic , but Mourey was the first and earned the distinct name! There are other towns in North America renamed Titanic in honour of the sinking of the unsinkable White Star liner in April 14, 1922. The 1522 victims were commemorated nation wide in 2012 and Titanic, Sask was discussed once again. The 268 M long ship was discovered in 1985 at a depth of 3.8km. You can discover local wrecks in the form of abandoned buildings in the area.

You are searching for an ammo can near the panels which commemorate the now abandoned village. You will find a titanic treasure filled with modern baubles. FTF prize are binoculars suitable for spotting icebergs.

This cache is hidden for SCAR 2012- the 5th celebration of Saskatoon Cache and Release. As a SCAR Cache this should not be sought before May 25th at5 5:30 pm. Check out GC3EKCP for more details.
