The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.
All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.
California Quail
A covey of quail. Surely at some point during your search for a geocache you have been startled as a group of these small birds burst from the undergrowth. California Quail spend most of their time on the ground searching for food. Running around on little legs that just seem a blur as they run here in there, their little top-knot of feathers that projects up over their foreheads bobbing this way and that. It can bring a smile to any face. Quail do have wings, short broad wings that are usually only used to fly as far as the nearest cover when startled. Protozoan’s in their intestines help digest their food. When the Quail hatch they do not have these protozoan’s, they only get them after hatching by pecking at the feces of their parents.
