Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Poirier Office Road Series (POR), dedicated to legendary Thoroughbred racehorses.

This series begins at one of New Brunswick's 83 covered bridges. Grab the cache that is there, and fasten your seatbelts. There will be a variety of hides. Expect the unexpected. Sometimes you'll be required to think outside the box, sometimes you'll need to persevere when your patience will be wearing thin. Enjoy the ride, enjoy the run.

These roads beyond the covered bridge are maintained for recreational purposes. Last year, the road was scraped and levelled. But 4WD trucks have enjoyed some muddy conditions, and there are now some fairly deep ruts in places. When I placed the series, I drove all but the last two hides in a regular front wheel drive vehicle. But this will not be possible for many months of the year. Walking the trail will be just as pleasurable, you may see many tracks, from moose to cayotes, to deer, to hare.

I have dedicated the series to legendary THOROUGHBRED RACEHORSES, these amazing, graceful, beautiful animals whose names most of us have at the very least have heard of.....

All cache coords are accurate within 3m or less. You WILL need tweezers to get to a few of the logs. Make a stop at the dollar store on the way out of town if you have none. Finally, the series currently ends at the end of Trafalgar road, a dirt road that runs all the way to Route 490 (McLaughlin dr). Please do not place any caches along Trafalgar rd as I will be completing the series with a tribute to Standardbred racehorses later in the year, thank you.

SECRETARIAT (BIG RED)
In my view, the best racehorse of all time! Born in 1970, he was a champion two year old, and at 3, became the first Triple Crown winner (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes) in 25 years. He won the Belmont by 31 lengths in record time, a record that stands to this day. Secretariat was trained by Lucien Laurin, and riden by Ron Turcotte, a New Brunswicker who now resides in the Grand Falls area. When Secretariat passed away, his heart was estimated to weigh 22 lbs, almost three times the weight of the average racehorse.
