Geocache Description:

In honor of two of the four Infantry Divisions that trained here, The Powder River (91st Division) and the Trailblazers (70th Division)

91-70 This cache is in recognition of two of the four Divisions that were trained at Camp Adair. The 91st Division, the Powder River Division, was reactivated August 15, 1942 and trained at Camp White in Medford. After maneuvers in Bend, they were moved to Camp Adair on November 2, 1943, and were there until the end of March, 1944. They were the second Division to train in the North section of the camp. They departed for North Africa in April, 1944. Their division shoulder patch is a Fir tree. Not only were they here when the 70th Division was in the South section, they were connected before that.

The 70th Division, the Trailblazers, also called Oregon’s Own because it was created here, was the second one in the South section. The Fir tree on their shoulder patch is in recognition of the fact that they drew their officers and N.C.O.’s from the 91st. Organization Day was September 11, 1943. Activation was on June 15, 1943. July 1944 they received word to move out to Fort Leonard Wood. By the first part of December they were aboard ships heading to France.
