Geocache Description:

Elsmere Canyon Trailhead is found along Sierra Hwy. There's an information billboard with a map just inside the green gate. There are trailmarkers along the road. After crossing under the freeway, you'll find pavement as well as dirt roads...but they're in pretty good shape. There are lots of choices for hiking loop trails...with additional parking at the end of Newhall Ave...and near the "Cascades" off Balboa Blvd (Nicklaus Dr).

You'll be hiking in Elsmere Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains in the Angeles NF. You're looking for a cammo'd plastic container...be careful not to trip on the hard-to-see wire fence....not quite a half mile hike to the freeway underpass. You're able to park (free) in the pull-out along Sierra Highway...across the street from the rock archway of Live Oak Manor...and Needham Ranch...and you'll be hiking along Elsmere Canyon Loop. There are lots of old, rusty relics from times long ago along the road and in the canyons...you'll see some shallow caves in the hillsides, too....not much shade....bring plenty of water...and be respectful of the wildlife found in the canyons and mountains....and enjoy the hike, the scenery, and the views!
