Geocache Description:

Small magnetic container. Be careful if you cross the road!

In the early years of the Hokes Bluff, "Sibert's Mill" was located here and was where pioneers and settlers did their milling. This area is also known as Tawannah Springs and legend says it was named after an Indian princess who grieved herself to death after the death of her cousin, Noccalula. In my day, it was a very popular swimming hole. It's part of Big Cove Creek which starts a few miles east of this point and flows into the Coosa River a few miles west. I'm pretty sure what was once the mill eventually became a masonic lodge, as well. The building's been gone for about 10 years now.

The building you can see just up the creek is a water treatment facility and is where Hokes Bluff gets pretty much all of its water. It's known to be some of the purest water in the state.

"Old Swimming Holes" consists of spots in Hokes Bluff my friends and I rode our bikes to as kids to combat the hot summers.
