Several months ago, I tried to chase pfeifferhorn up to Summit starting out at Ruth's Diner. It was an absolutely brutal, terrifying, steep & slick bushwhack up some of the nastiest terrain I've encountered. I couldn't wait to do it again!
The second time I came up, I tried the Western approach starting near the condos east of Hogle Zoo. MUCH easier, albeit longer. I liked this approach so much that I decided to entice people to try it by placing a power trail of caches along the way. Including this one, you'll be able to claim ten caches. If you want to include Deep Tracks - My Aching Back on the way up and Beyond the Summit which is, well, just beyond Summit, that makes it an even dozen. For a difficult hike like this, that's a pretty good number.
The actual coordinates for the cache are N 40° AB.CDE W 111° FG.HIJ. You'll find clues A to H in the You're Going WHERE? series, and the clue for I on the back of the log for Summit. Have you noticed the Chinese characters at the top of the descriptions for this cache and the YGW series? That's where J comes in. The two Chinese characters translate into one English word. J equals the number of letters in this word, which has become my motto as of late.
Most of the caches in the series will be painted matchstick tubes, with a couple of exceptions. Enjoy the hike, and remember to write down the clues as you go along!
Ready? Then let's get started!
Congratulations to Hiking Seal for not only getting the FTF on the final, but the FTFs on #s 2-8! Well done!
