Geocache Description:

Discover the site of the future Ni River
Park. And find this cache while there!

As long ago as 1817, the land where this cache is hidden was part of Brodie Farm. The farm still exists today where the Hilldrup family is raising Angus cattle.

But much of the land was sold to Spotsylvania County in the 1990s and now two schools, Wilderness Elementary School and Ni River Middle School, have been built on the land south of the farm. Still further south between the middle school and the bank of the Ni River is land that will someday be Ni River Park. The Spotsylvania County Parks and Recreation Department plans to develop what they call the Hilldrup Tract into a multi-sport park similar to Patriot Park.

So, Ni River Park is a place where new soccer fields will be built! In the meantime, you can come and discover this cache in the woods here now and enjoy the view of the Ni River as it flows into and fills the Ni River Reservoir. But it will take a bit of hiking to get there.

In order to find the cache you should park in the designated parking area and hike through the woods to the posted coordinates. There you will find a container which contains the coordinates of the cache, which is another hike, but takes you to the most scenic part of these woods. Once you have found the cache, signed the log and traded swag, please be sure to return following the same route you took in order to stay on the parkland and avoid trespassing on nearby private property. The round trip hiking distance is only just over a mile, but it will feel like more since there are no trails to follow.

This is a Soccer Knutz cache, part of an occasional series by the Cachew Knutz highlighting new or future soccer fields in the Fredericksburg area to celebrate the growth of soccer in importance to the area and the growth in importance of the area to soccer.
