Cacapon State Park
This cache is located near the entrance of beautiful Cacapon State Park near Berkeley Springs. Cacapon State Park received its name from being located in the shadows of the wide expanse of Cacapon Mountain. This mountain is the highest peak in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia reaching an elevation of 2,300 feet. The Cacapon River parallels the mountain in a meandering route beneath the mountains western slope.
Cacapon (pronounced CaCApon) is a derivative of a Shawnee Indian word meaning "medicine waters". It refers to the areas renowned medicinal waters, which have been acclaimed throughout history for their healing powers. These waters come to the surface approximately ten miles from Cacapon at the nearby Berkeley Springs State Park..
Cacapon Resort State Park encompasses over 6,000 acres. Over 20 miles of trails maintained for the hikers visiting the park. From a leisure walker to an avid hiker, Cacapon has a trail to suit you. Park map and trail guides are available at the lodge front desk or you can download a Resort Trail Map at the park web site listed above.
The cache is located at the park entrance. There is parking just behind the building just inside the entrance to the right. This will be a park and grab. If you stay long here, you will see lots of these, hopefully much more alive than this one.
WV State Park caches are required to be moved each year. When I went to move my caches, I decided it was just as easy to make a new cache as it was to move it. This is a new location and a new container.
