Richens "Uncle Dick" Wootton was one of the founders and early residents of Fort Pueblo, having come to Colorado with a wagon train to Bent's Fort. While living near Pueblo, he operated a cattle and buffalo ranch. But he is best known for building a toll road over Raton Pass using the labor of a tribe of Ute Indians.
