Geocache Description:

Take the gravel road off Eliza Street near the Wellington North car wash. If you walk far enough, you can stand on the base of the windmill foundations which make for some interesting pictures.

Mutiny on the Arthur Railway

In 1968, the Toronto Grey and Bruce Railway started developing a railway line to connect Toronto with Grey Bruce. The work was dangerous and led to many crippling accidents and fatalities. The worst incident on the line occurred in Arthur on July 12, 1872. Shots were fired at a train crew by drunken members of the Orange Order. One passenger was killed.

The tracks have since been removed but the station still stands on Conestoga Street. The track that travels along the edge of Arthur is used for trails and where the former railway land meets the Conn Road it turns into another agricultural access road and the cache is hidden in this stretch. The right side of the road showcases the ever-glamorous Arthur sewage lagoons and the left offers a view of the Arthur Wind Farm developed in 2010.

Take the gravel road off of Eliza Street (turns into Wellington Road 14). The road is right near the entrance to the Wellington North car wash. You can drive in part of the way but I recommend taking your car no further than the gate to the lagoons as the potholes get very large just after it and there is nowhere to turn around. Best to walk along the road to get to this one.
