Geocache Description:

You can find Aragog a short walk from the Kennedy Park parking lot. The climb into the Forbidden Forest is a bit steep going up so be careful and use lots of stealth; although Aragog is dead, his children still live and hunt in this area. And of course stealth is also required so as to not be spotted by MUGGLES while searching for this magical creature. When you're up here you feel strangely alone.

Aragog, leader of a large Acromantula colony, is a “giant talking spider [owned by Rubeus Hagrid] … who dwelled deep within the Forbidden Forest” before his death on 20 April 1997. Although it’s his instinct to attack humans, he never personally harmed a human out of respect for Hagrid. However, he allowed his children the option to feast upon Ron and Harry before the boys made their narrow escape.

When Hagrid was a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he acquired Aragog when he was only an egg. After Aragog hatched, Hagrid kept him in a cupboard in the school’s dungeons until he released him into the Forbidden Forest when Tom Riddle accused the spider of being the Slytherin monster who was traveling the school killing muggle-born students.

The cache is a small square container that can fit in the palm of your hand. It contains a log and original swag consisting of: a small tape measure. The climb up to the cache is steep so walking down to the cache may be easier; the overall terrain rating depends on which way you go. The roots/branches in the surrounding area are useful to hang on to when searching for Aragog. Please cover the cache well and make sure it is completely closed.
