Join the Scottish Wildlife Trust path from the Southfield Road about 1/2 a mile outside Blackwood village. A limited number of cars can park at the entrance. The path follows a disused railway line and as such is generally well packed and level for a 1/2 mile or so occasionally slightly muddy in places. At the 'castle' way marking post TURN RIGHT down steps to a bridge which eventually leads to the cache site and the Viaduct. Total length of walk in 3/4 of a mile.
Following the former Coalburn branch line of the Caledonian railway company (closed 1951) between the village of Blackwood and the hamlet of Tillietudlum. This section now forms part of the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Upper Nethan Gorge Reserve. The reserve encompasses a diverse woodland with locally uncommon species such as the broadleaved helleborine, wood mellick and pendulous sedge. Wildflower-rich grassland in and around the woodland provides a valuable nectar source for insect life. The cache site is very close to the north side of the Nethan Viaduct (which was one of the highest railway crossings in Scotland) and provides a fantastic aspect across the Nethan valley. The path continues on to the village of Crossford via Craignethan Castle and the Lower Nethan Gorge. The cache is a small official geocache container with log book and pencil with various geoswag. Finally it is 'chirp' enabled.
The next nearest geocache is Craignethan Castle (GC12K79).
