Geocache Description:

This is the 23rd of a series in which a red telephone box is to be found within 20 feet of a red post box.

In the cache container there is no writing instrument, so please remember to bring one.

The lovely wee village of Brook Street is situated a little to the north of Cuckfield. It’s well maintained and has good signage! However, the unfortunate phone box has been abandoned by BT as it was insufficiently used. According to the notice within it, the phone box was offered up for adoption in 2009 for the princely sum of £1. Sadly, it is still an orphan.

Back in 2012, when the Sussex Olympic Rings was created, we had to complicate this cache with an extra stage in order to have a nice clean area on which to display nognod's wonderful SOR map art. As the Rings were archived on the 19th, we have now been able to wind back the clock and eliminate that extra stage.

Nevertheless, the cache is not at the above, published coordinates.

Before you will be able to find and log the cache, you need to obtain some information from a dedication sign beneath the OS map of the area which is on a nearby post . On the sign are 2 dates related to the life of Heather Louisa Grant. In each case you will need the number of the day and the number of the month. For the first date, the 2 digit number of the day = A, B and the 1 digit number of the month = C. For the second date, the 1 digit number of the day = D, and the 2 digit number of the month = E,F.

Note: the following formula has been changed as of 21/09/16

The cache can be found at:

N51° 01.(B-A)(D-C)(B+C) .

W000° 08.(B-E-F)(D+C)(D-A-B)

This revision, eliminating an additional stage added in 2012

has been made possible because of the archiving of the Sussex Olympic Rings group of caches. So it is now a bit easier to do.
If anybody would like to extend 'A Fine Pair' series you are welcome to do so but first please contact mattd2k, who now keeps track of the numbers and names of these caches to avoid duplication.
