Geocache Description:

Small container located in Hetton Lyons Country Park remember to bring a pen or pencil to sign log.
Please note this cache is harmless and no lions were killed in its making.

This country park is laid out on part of the site of the former Hetton Lyons colliery with the park being completed in 1993 and has many picturesque views.

Facilities include football pitches, a cycling track used by the local cycling club for race meetings and also special needs, canoeing tuition provided by qualified instructors being available for people from all walks of life.

There are 3 lakes which are home to many wildlife, swans and ducks to name a few. The names of the lakes are Stevenson Lake, Blossom Pond and the largest is Lyons Lake

Hetton fishing club use Stevenson Lake but it is also available to the public upon buying a day ticket from Sunderland City Council

Horse riding on a designated bridle path is also one of the main features.

From this location you get a nice view of the wind turbines in the distance
