La Bonneterie a longtemps été l’activité principale de Troyes et de son agglomération. De nombreuses usines dressaient leurs cheminées dans le ciel Troyen et si en 1914 il y avait plus de 100 cheminées dans l’agglomération, il n’en reste plus que 19 à ce jour.

Textile manufacturing was the main activity of the city of Troyes for a long time. Many plant’s chimneys stood in the sky of Troyes and even there was more than 100 chimneys in Troyes in the year 1914, only 19 are still remaining today.

La rue Bégand est la rue des Bonneteries, plusieurs usines s’y succèdent.
Deux cheminées correspondant à deux bonneteries sont bien visibles de la rue.
ETABLISSEMENTS BONBON
Créée en 1881 par les époux Bonbon-Sourdat, l’usine Bobon se spécialise dans les articles de qualité qu’elle exporte dans les colonies Françaises et aux Etats-Unis où la notoriété est importante. L’exploitation se continue en famille puisque Louis Bonbon, fils adoptif des fondateurs, dirigera une des plus importantes usines de Troyes avec plus de mille employés. Louis Bonbon sera avec Valton l’un des premiers à posséder une marque : ELBE.
Rachetée en 1960 par Devanlay pour y fabriquer les pulls Lacoste, l’exploitation cessera en 1994.
A partir de 2002 l’ensemble est réhabilité en centre d’activité tertiaire connu sous le nom d’espace Bégand
USINE GUILLOT-JOINVILLE
Située à l’angle de la rue Bégand et de la rue Couturat, l’usine a été occupée successivement par plusieurs Bonnetiers depuis 1872.
D’abord Petit et frères, puis Georges Lebocey (1883) avant d’être racheté par Louis Bonbon (1903) qui revendra les bâtiments à Maurice Mauchaufée (1910).
Mauchauffée développera l’usine et fera des travaux dont l’édification de la cheminée.
En 1954 création de la SA Guillot dont la marque Joinville sera le fer de lance en se spécialisant dans les vêtements de sport et de loisirs équipants de nombreux corps d’Etat.
Face à une concurrence féroce l’entreprise cesse son activité en 2000.
En 2008 la réhabilitation du site a vu la livraison de 12 logements connus sous le nom de « Lofts de la Gare ».

Begand Street (or “Rue Begand”) is the textile manufacturing center, several factories line up there.
There are two chimneys left over each corresponding to a textile manufacturing plant.
Etablissements Bonbon
Created in 1881 by the Bonbon-Sourdat spouses, the plant is specialized in quality items that it used to export to French territories and to the United States where it enjoys a good notoriety.
This remained a family business since Louis Bonbon, adopted son of the founders, led this company as one of the most important in Troyes with more than a thousand employees.
Louis Bonbon will be with Valton one of the first one to own a trademark: ELBE
Bought back in 1960 by Devanlay to manufacture Lacoste sweaters, the plant closed in 1994.
Starting in 2002 the space was rehabilitated into services workspace known as the Begand space (espace Begand)
Guillot-Joinville Plant
Located at the corner of Begand Street and Couturat Street, the plant has been used by several textile manufacturers since 1872.
First Petit et Freres, then George Lebocey (1883) before being bought out by Louis Bonbon (1903) who would later sell the buildings to Maurie Mauchaufee (1910).
Mauchauffee developed the plant and added to the existing structure including the chimney.
In 1954, the SA Guillot was created with the Joinville Brand as its most notorious brand specializing in sportswear providing many state institutions.
Facing increased competitive pressure, the company shut its doors in 2000.
In 2008, the space was re-used as residential space known as the “Lofts de la Gare” (The station Lofts)
