This cache is being placed as a memorial to Borders Books & Music.
I got the idea for what became a series of 16 caches from my wife's former workplace. She was employed at Borders Books & Music in Bridgewater, NJ, from 2002 through 2006. Borders, of course, was one of the United States' two largest brick and mortar bookstores. However, due to overexpansion, bad management, and the surge of Amazon as a book purveyor and e-book leader, Borders was forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The owners were unable to find a buyer for the company, and all its retail locations closed by September 2011.
In order to honor the memory of the good times both she and I had here, I'm placing a series of caches at each of New Jersey's retail locations.
We visited the Eatontown store once or twice, but not nearly as often as our regular stores of Bridgewater, Flemington, and Watchung. This site is now home to a patio furniture outlet.
Please bring a writing implement, and replace the cache where you found it. You may need an extraction tool.
