Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches. All the caches are placed close to footpaths which are all clearly visible. Accessible with the “extreme” strollers, but wheelchair access wouldn’t be advisable.

Most of the series are placed on land that has been reclaimed from former industrial sites around the Brookside / Stanhill area of Oswaldtwistle. The series can all be done on a circular walk which takes about an hour – the numbers on the cache names will help plan your route. Please respect the natural areas by sticking to the footpaths. All the caches are placed within 3 or 4 metres of footpaths. There have been a large amount of native trees planted in these areas as part of a major re-generation of this former industrial area, including Oak, Pine and Alder and there is an abundance of wildlife including bats, rabbits and deer.
This is on the site of an old quarry which was later used as an industrial tip for Howard & Bulloughs in Accrington. It has been filled in and planted to allow nature to recover from man’s mess again!
The only sign that this used to be a tip are the vents dotted around the field.
When i was up here in June there were hundreds of butterflies at the top end of the field.
Note: If you are coming from Owd 9 "Pickle factory you need to go through the steel gate.
There are panoramic views from the cache site, with Hameldon to the east, Pendle to the north with Ingleborough visible on a clear day beyond that and the West Pennine Moors to your south.
