As the title suggests, this walk is a linear route, owing to the lack of connecting footpaths and suitably safe roads for walking in this immediate area. Kirkby Green Linear series consists of 11 caches plus one bonus cache. The location of the bonus cache can be calculated using clues from 10 of the 11 caches which form the main route. The entire route with bonus cache included is just shy of a 4.5 mile round trip.
There is ample parking for the series available at the recognized Stepping Out point very close to GZ for the first cache.
Along the route there are two additional caches to be found which are not part of this series. There are no detours to them so why not? They are GC18X2M, Chicken Run & GC1QGTG, Train Spotting.
For those with children in particular, great care needs to be taken when crossing the railway line near GZ for "Train Spotting". This is a proper crossing point, but consists of bare rail track and ballast. There is no smooth area to cross over the line. Again with children in mind, there are several portions of the route which have quite deep dykes, and at the time of publication these have plenty of water in them.
The route generally consists of quite easy walking along well marked paths, but owing to the high amount of rainfall and farm traffic prior to publication, portions of the walk are now quite muddy and wet. Normally, during summer months this is not a problem. Additionaly, several locations along the route are developing an (un)healthy covering of stinging nettles, so our advice would be to leave the shorts at home!
In caches containing a clue for the bonus, the clue is marked and ringed in red ink. The method of dealing with the clues to complete the coordinates of the Bonus Cache is described in the Bonus Cache information.
None of the caches contain pens or pencils, so don't forget yours: no sign, no find! No special items other than a pair of tweezers are required to complete the series.
Hope you enjoy the series and the walk.
