Tendick Nature Park is a true treasure of Ozaukee County!
Flying discs, flying arrows and quick waters
Explore Ozaukee County's "park in two parts", where fitness options are everywhere. In the west park, follow its trails and boardwalks through cedar wetlands and the upland maple beech forest. Try your hand at disc golf on the county's only professional 18 hole disc golf course. Home to a busy cross country course, sand volleyball court and cross-country skiing, this park also has plenty of room for picnicking with grills and lots of seating. In the east park, check out the archery range that features an elevated shooting platform and investigate the canoe/kayak launch on the Milwaukee River.
This geocache is hidden in the west park near the disc golf course and cross country trails. You must park in the parking lot (see parking coordinates) and walk to the cache location. Do not park on the side of the park road! Remember to bring your own pen since the cache doesn't have one. Hours for all Ozaukee County Parks are 6:00am to 9:00pm. This hide is winter friendly, but the road may have the gates closed to motor traffic during those months. You can park to the side of the gates and make the short hike.
Donald Tendick, Sr., donated 142 acres of woods and farmland to the County in March of 1999. Mr. Tendick passed away on May 11, 2000. Through continued work with his family and the community, his wish that this land become a park for all to enjoy has come true. The canoe launch on the Milwaukee River, archery range, restrooms and shelter were completed in 2005. The picture to the right shows Rosemary Tendick cutting the ribbon to dedicate the new shelter in August of that year. Disc golf - tee pads, greens and pins were established in 2006. A pagoda, a quarter-mile long boardwalk through wetlands, and a paved walkway around the pond were added in 2007. All of the remaining Phase III development work was completed in 2008. Picnic tables, grills, and other park equipment are now incorporated to complete this park. Currently many people are using this park for nature walks, disc golf, weddings and geocaching. Several local High Schools also use the park grounds for their cross-country meets. Tendick Park is not far from Hawthorne Hills County Golf Course and Pioneer Village, making its location ideal for all kinds of activity.
