Geocache Description:

You've heard of them and probably seen them on youtube (video from my 1st WWFM) or television. Flash mobs have definitely gone mainstream in recent years. Now you have your chance to join in the fun, geocaching style!! Join thousands of other cachers around the world for a flash mob . . . of sorts! :)

flash mob (FLASH mawb) n. A large group of people who gather in a usually predetermined location, perform some brief action, and then quickly disperse. —v., —adj. (from http://www.wordspy.com/words/flashmob.asp)

Five years ago, I held my first event -- a flash mob. I had wanted to host an event, but was too chicken. But I figured I could handle a small event of a whopping 15 minutes in length. I could, and I did. But in looking back, that event may have been more work than almost any event I've done since. I though it would be fun to host another and was waiting for the 10th in the series, but things happen, and here we are.

About this event:

Official Schedule:

9:45a - 9:59a
Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of no-where.

9:58
A volunteer will begin filming video for the entire event to capture the moments.

10:00
FluteFace and VIPs will walk to ground zero without a boom box playing Geocaching music. This is the signal that the event has begun!
Participants: Make sure to pickup your loot bag from a volunteer, carrying a large buckets. The loot bag will have almost everything you’ll need: nametag, log sticker, NUTS style meal, pencil, crayon . . . If extras are needed, see a volunteer, with a bucket.
Participants: Fill out nametags with caching names and stick 'em on. That’s what the crayon’s for!
Participants: Fill out log stickers (DO NOT REMOVE THE BACKING!!) and put them in a volunteer’s container. That’s what the pencil is for! Make sure your caching name appears on any logging sticker. This will allow you to log the event online. We will be checking! Also, make sure that everybody in your group logs (name on a sticker), even if they do not have a caching handle.
Participants: If you find a blue raffle ticket in your goody bag, you won! Find a volunteer and claim your prize.

10:00 - 10:08
Participants: Mingle. Share stories. Brag. Find a volunteer who will have blue buckets with which to trade swag. Take pictures. Sign and stick your log sticker. CITO the local area! Enjoy your sweet meal – a chocolaty kiss!

10:08 – 10:11
Participants: Listen up. FluteFace will make a few announcements -- not many. :-)

10:11-10:14 Participants: Go over to the photo area and assemble FAST. Listen to a volunteer for directions.

10:14
FluteFace calls the one minute warning: "It is now 10:14!"
Participants: Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping. You might want to "secretly" organize where you will re-form after dispersal.

10:15 EXACTLY
Participants: Wait for it . . . then LEAVE the area, right at 10:15, in a disorderly manner and in different directions. Afterward, meet elsewhere if desired. We want to clear the video taping area but we will continue to tape for a minute or so to show us "vacate". The buckets of swag and TBs will be packed up; the log book will be packed up and sealed. We will leave the area to go . . . elsewhere.

10:17
A volunteer will end the taping.

All volunteers will be wearing purple camo bandanas on their heads or necks. Look for them!

Other Useful Information:
  • This event is only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign a provided log sticker DURING this time to claim the event. Hopefully this event will bring (briefly!) geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
  • This event will be organized and facilitated by volunteers. There will not be enough words to express my thanks and gratitude to them. If you are interested in volunteering, there is still time.
  • At exactly 10:00a (as determined by a GPS clock . . . yours should be identical) The event will begin. Volunteers will hand out loot bags to cachers. The bags will contain everything mentioned in the schedule. Participants will sign small stickers (which will later be added to a log book) to qualify for attendance, and drop them in a designated collection ammo can. Participants may trade swag. Look for the man with two white buckets. Please bring only reasonably sized swag. Oversized TBs will not be welcome, but do bring them to the WSGA 48 North event, later in the day.
  • Remaining swag (there should be some) and TBs will be used in a new cache to commemorate this event that will be placed in the park.
  • If any muggles are curious about the event, a volunteer will hand out fliers that explain geocaching.
  • At precisely 10:15, the buckets and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Events that happen after 10:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.
  • Although participants are welcome to get together for eating, socializing, caching or whatever before or after the event, the event will officially be over at 10:15.
  • Carpooling or hiking up is encouraged. There are fewer than 20 spots at the top, but plenty of trails to get there from lower areas.

I hope there will be some muggles nearby who will wonder
"What did I just see? What just happened?"
