ROCK OF AGES Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

onecrazycanadian: Hi 2figs

In your last note you indicated that the cache would be enabled when spring arrived. Since the cache has remained disabled over the summer and fall I cannot let it go any longer. Consequently I am archiving the cache at this time as I cannot let it remain disabled any longer.

Thanks

Geocache Description:

A well groomed vacant church yard in a small Saskatchewan Village

The Village of Heward was formed in 1904 before Saskatchewan was a Province and before the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railroad. Within the first year the residents under the leadership of Rev. I.A. Lackey of the Anglican Church, opened the first church building between Arcola and Regina. It was the only Protestant Church in a District comprising thousands of square miles. This original church served the community until the arrival of Rev. Frederick Pike in 1918 who was well known as a church builder. Following the English style of stone churches, the beautiful St. Andrews Anglican Church built from local field stone, was opened October 21st, 1921.The construction took over 600 loads of prairie field stone and 300 cubic yards of sand. The congregation dwindled away as the Village grew smaller and in 1961 the building was sold to the United Church of Canada who operated the facility until 1968. The church remains today a reminder of ages past.
