Scale Solar System Model #2: Venus Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CatsOnCoasters: Archiving. This area is just too muggle heavy. Random people just loitering at GZ for hours on each of the last three attempts to replace. Will try to find a new local for venus.

Geocache Description:

Find out how big our solar system really is as you complete this cache series. In this model the sun is represented by a large sculpture of a hand holding a zia symbol at Luz de Amistad Park near the corner of Tramway and Central. This Zia, a symbol for the sun, is about four meters in diameter. The distances of each planet to the sun and the diameter of each planet is to scale relative to the sun.

Venus, the second planet from the sun, is located about 310 meters from the sun in this scale model. Venus, slightly smaller than Earth, and measures 34 millimeters in diameter.

Fun Facts:
Venus is the third brightest object in the sky, behind only the sun and the moon.

Venus is in many ways such as size, orbit and composition a near twin to earth. However, the atmosphere of Venus is 92 times more dense than that of earth and consists primarily of carbon dioxide. This atmosphere has caused a runaway green house effect elevating the surface temperature to 900 F, hotter even than mercury.

Over a dozen man made craft have landed on Venus. However, none have remained functional more than two hours in the extremely hot, high pressure, and corrosive conditions on the plant surface.

Congratulations to Team TJ for FTF!
