Geocache Description:

Found on the shore of the Wai'ulua Bay at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Wai'ulua Bay is known as the place where the papio fish (baby 'ulua) love to play. When the tides are high it pushes these shimmering fishes over the shallow reef that connects the bay from one side of the mouth of the bay to the other side. These small fish feed on the algae that settles on the rocks deep inside the bay. When the papio become too large to swim over that shallow reef, it then stays outside in the deep blue waters as 'Ulua. Once upon a time in old Hawai'i before the last lava flow of Mauna Kea this area was a thriving Hawaiian fishing village. Wai'ulua is the best place to view a beautiful Hawaiian sunset while sipping on a Lava Flow from the nearby bar at the Lagoon Grill.
