Geocache Description:

What are these mysterious sandstone ruins, located just at the top of the well-known Leura Mall? Thanks to the research of jonnosan, we now know that they're the sad remains of the famous 'Chateau Napier' -- destroyed in the great 1957 bush fire.

Built in 1910, more than a hundred years ago, and commanding a panoramic view of the Jamison Valley, the once-magnificent 'Chateau Napier' used to welcome visitors to our lovely Leura area. Please see the link above, kindly provided by jonnosan. Anyhow, when you take the main (second) Leura exit off the Great Western Highway (coming from Sydney) and approach the nifty Leura Mall roundabout 'suspended' above the main thoroughfare, you may see these old stones over to your right. You'll certainly see them when leaving Leura Mall and heading east back to Sydney. There's room inside the container for some small swaps and GCs and TBs. Sorry about all the blackberry bushes! (Don't search around GZ while wearing shorts!) Happy searching! Hope you'll enjoy the Leura area.
