A backyard view of a huge, abandoned home
I remember about fifteen years ago when the big, white house on the hill was being built. We all wondered who owned it, but I never learned for sure. I heard a rumor that Arnold Schwarzenegger was building himself a weekend Vegas home, but while pursuing other interests, let it go. Another rumor was that it was an orphanage where terrible, unspeakable things happened, and it became haunted and subsequently abandoned. Both stories are far fetched to me, and I’m sure there are many others equally unbelievable.
Mostly unoccupied, if not entirely, it fell into disrepair and was vandalized extensively. However, recently, it was painted a more appealing earth tone color, and some repairs have been made. The vandalization looks to have continued. Still I wonder who might own such a monstrosity, leave it unfinished, unguarded, and vacant for so many years.
If you are aware of a rumor concerning this big house, or the truth (which may be stranger than a rumor) please share.
Access from the top of Copper and walk 0.1 mile up the hill by this big house to your right. As always when desert hiking, watch for snakes and carry water.
Recently, the house was razed, and the land is vacant too. Oh well, the view is still worth the effort.
