Lake Waterford is formed by a dam on the upper reaches of the Magothy River. The stream formed below the dam is called Magothy Run and eventually grows to become the Magothy River. Magothy Run is an important breeding spot for fish... yellow perch eggs were spotted just below the spillway in March 2012. I saw two woodducks here when I was first scouting the location and then in June I saw hundreds of carp coming up the run to spawn. It was wild... fish almost two feet long in a few inches of water, all trying to get upstream. The Magothy River Association (www.magothyriver.org) is a volunteer group dedicated to the health of the river.
The cache is a short walk along Magothy Run heading downstream from the Lake Waterford Dam along Old Mill Road. There is no need to cross Magothy Run. The cache hiding location is naturally well camouflaged....after you discover the hiding place, you will need solve a fun "field puzzle" to access the container. The container is a small clear tube and holds a log only. BYOP. Everything you need to solve the field puzzle is 8 meters away. Please replace everything as found and do not destroy the cache hiding spot or post spoilers about the nature of the puzzle solution in your logs.
DO NOT park along Old Mill Road. Please park in the Park Lot (parking coordinates provided).
This cache is part of the Lake Waterford series placed by a group of local cachers. All of these caches are Anne Arundel County Parks and Recreation approved. Happy Hunting!
