Geocache Description:

A unique triple grave stone that tells a sad story of three small pox victims from 200 years ago.

Watch out for Poison Ivy!

During the Revolution about the time of the early summer retreat of the American Forces from their Canadian expedition in 1776, Small-pox broke out among the soldiers.

A hospital was built on the north side of the mouth of Hospital Creek, which incident gave the stream its name. The number of deaths here was so great that pits were dug into which the bodies were thrown without coffins.

During the war of 1812 era, Three young people who lived nearby were infected by bones they had picked up from the burial pits of the old Hospital.

The Triple grave stone tells their story. Scientists today recognize that many viruses (like the Small Pox Virus) can remain active for decades and perhaps even centuries! Archeologist are aware of this and take precautions to avoid infection.

The Chimney Point Museum in the Yellow house ¼ mile to the south west is open all summer and has wonderful and unique exhibits showcasing Native American and French culture. These corn fields were the first lands settled in Vermont by europeans in the early 1700s.

Also if it is near lunch or dinner, the Bridge Restaurant is an excellent place to “fuel up”

Be careful of the traffic which can be traveling fairly fast!
