Geocache Description:

Series of caches along the Cwm Elan Valley Woodland Walk on the west side of Garreg Ddu reservoir, from Nantgwyllt Church car park to Penbont car park. Note: no phone signal in the valley - FREE WiFi at the Visitor Centre. No bicycles allowed along this route. Please bring your own pen.

This series can be done as a circular walk, the distances are as follows: Nantgwyllt Church car park to Penbont car park is 4miles. From there you can either walk the same route back or continue via a short distance along the road and then onto the cycle path back to the starting point, which is a further 2.64 miles. See map photo in the gallery for the route.

From Nantgwyllt car park, follow the track signposted to 'Henfron'.
The cache is placed a short distance down from the footpath. Please replace hidden as found! Continue along the path to the bridge crossing a stream with a waterfall. Then continue up the main track to the right.

Please be especially careful where you walk so as not to disturb the fauna or flora of this wonderful woodland.

This series brings you to this beautiful broadleaved woodland area to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil walk. The walk itself is not particularly demanding or difficult, there are a few gentle inclines along the way.

The path is narrow in places, with slippery wet roots and rocks. There are streams and wet muddy areas to cross too. As always when walking in the countryside, ensure that you are equipped with proper clothing and footwear.

Please follow the advice of the Elan Valley ranger safety information: • Make sure you are suitably equipped for changes in the weather • Be aware you may encounter rough and uneven terrain • Don’t rely on mobile phones as the signal is very poor if any at all! • Always tell someone where you are going and what time you expect to return.

Please note: The Penbont House Tea Room and Bed & Breakfast has seasonal opening times - please see the Elan Valley website for details.

We would like to give grateful thanks to the Elan Valley Trust and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for their kind permission to allow us to place this series of caches on their land.

Please see www.elanvalley.org.uk for further information about the Elan Valley and events held during the year.
