EL NAUFRAGIO DEL GNEISENAU
A mediados de diciembre de 1900 la corbeta alemana Gneisenau aguardaba en la bahía de Málaga para recoger al embajador alemán, que estaba de misión en Marruecos.

Esa mañana, había tormenta y el levante soplaba como nunca. Las autoridades de la Marina recomendaron al capitán que fondease la nave al cobijo del puerto.

Marineros alemanes perdieron la vida —sus restos descansan en un mausoleo en el Cementerio Inglés de la capital— y pudieron ser muchos más de no ser por la valentía de unos cuantos malagueños que arriesgaron sus vidas adentrándose en el oleaje para salvar a los náufragos con sus pequeñas embarcaciones de pesca.
