South Grape Walnut Ramble
The South Grape Walnut Ramble is a six-stage multi-cache that will take you on a 1.3 mile hike through lovely woods and meadows along and near the Walnut Grove National Recreational Trail on the southern shores of Lake Grapevine. (Be sure to bring your own drinking water.)
Stage 1 - Parking:
The first stage is the parking area. At the posted coordinates you will find a green sign with a map of the area and two phone numbers near the bottom. Substitute letters for the first phone number as follows: ABC DEF GHIJ. The next stage is located at:
N 32-59.JJD
W 097-08.EEE
Stage 2 - High-Rise:
At the indicated coordinates you will see — prominently displayed — four letters followed by a number. Ignore the number and assign the letters the following numbers, in the order they appear: 0, 1, 5, 9. The next stage is located at:
N 32-59.8BS
W 097-08.3LH
Stage 3 - Into the Woods:
Here (after some searching) you will find two 3-digit numbers, representing the final three digits of the latitude and longitude of the next stage, which is located at:
N 32-59.[first 3 numbers]
W 097-08.[next three numbers]
Stage 4 - Treethorns:
This stage works exactly like Stage 3. Find the numbers. The next stage is located at:
N 32-59.[first 3 numbers]
W 097-08.[next three numbers]
Stage 5 - Bead It!:
Here you'll find something representing a 5-digit number. Just count the groups between green and red, starting after green. The coordinates for the final stage are:
N 33-00.0[first 2 digits]
W 097-08.[next three digits]
Temporary ALERT: Reports from the field confirm some probable critter damage at this stage. Until repairs are made, add 1 to the third digit you find.
Stage 6 - Cache in!:
Congratulations, you found it! Plenty of trade swag and a mini Leatherman tool for the First to Find the new container. This is the first cache I created. After washing away twice in floods, it's now in a less vulnerable location.
Congratulations to Sven&Britta
for being First-to-Find!
