This cache has been archived.

ThePinkPurse: Unfortunately this beautiful place seems to be attracting the wrong kind of visitors who don't respect the history of this fort. It seems time to archive this cache. Perhaps another one of you geocachers will find a good hiding spot here to set up a new cache to highlight the history of this amazing fort. Thank you for all the finds and favorites!

Geocache Description:

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE WHEN THE CROPS HAVE STARTED TO GROW. WE DON'T WANT TO RUIN THIS FARMER'S CROPS. This cache is designed to bring you to a very cool historical spot. It is a large lock-n-lock box with plenty of fun trade items. While the cache itself shouldn't take too long to find, getting to the cache may require some bush-whacking. Please be careful of poisonous plants.

Please do your best to return exactly as you found it for the next cacher who comes along.

Welcome to Fort Ralston / Brown’s Fort!! Located in the center of Northampton County’s “Irish Settlement” circa 1731, this fort is about two miles southwest from the present town of Bath, PA. It stood at the border of the properties owned by the Ralston family and General Robert Brown. The fort was likely built between 1730 and 1765. The fort has a stone foundation, 7 or 8 feet high, and likely had logs on top of the walls extending like an overshoot barn all around, so that no one could approach without being seen. For more information, visit: http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/1pa/1picts/frontierforts/ff8.html

This cache is located in a cornfield, so please do not attempt a find during the months that corn is growing (approx. July-Oct). Winter is the ideal time to find this one as the lack of foliage will make it easier terrain. This is probably not a good one to take the little ones to - I recommend ages 10 and up; definitely not handicap accessible. This cache is technically located off of the Nor-Bath Rail Trail. The trail is accessible from Bicentennial Park in Northampton, which has ample parking. The trail head outside of Bath ends on State Route 987 near the intersection with Jacksonville Road. There is a ballpark and playground near there that has some parking. If you're looking to get a little closer, there are some businesses on Keystone Drive off Airport Road that have parking lots, but please note, permission has NOT been given to park here.

Kudos to EpicTrio for an epically fast first to find (and on a rainy day too)!
