Birkenhead Park has played host to many special events in the past, such as the Eisteddfod in 1864 but this year, for one year only, Birkenhead Park will play host to a significant part in the running of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
The torch’s route starts in Athens, Greece where Princess Anne will bring it to the UK and it will start its mammoth journey around the UK on Saturday 19th May 2012 and finish at the Olympic Park in London on Friday 27th July 2012. Within its travelling, the torch will come to Birkenhead Park on Friday 1st June 2012 and it is expected at about 6pm. A full map of the route can be found below:

This cache is located in the lower section of Birkenhead Park and if you come on the night of publication, you may even be lucky enough to see the torch from GZ! The container is a micro size but it is not your ordinary type of 35mm film canister and it is in a camo bag. Many thanks to the senior ranger who has granted me permission to place this cache.
