This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. To help you start your search, think about the farming activity that took place and jump into action. You will follow a meandering trail near a gentle flowing stream and take in nature’s shaping of the landscape as you see areas of heavy, moss covered rock and multiple fissures. Watch out for dead trees as you search.
This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. There are 44 geocaches hidden within 11 state parks and state historic sites in the Saratoga/Capital District region, and geocachers finding them all will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache. Use this stamp to stamp your passport. This stamp is NOT a trade item.
This cache is in the Southern Trails zone of the park. Do you know how many of the picnic areas in Thacher Park got their names? Some areas were named after the farming activity that went on here after Europeans started settling in the area in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. These include Pear Orchard and Hop Field. Some areas were named after former Park Superintendents (Knowles Flat) and others were named after the activity that took place in the area such as mining (Minelot and Paint Mine). Still another area was named for a famous professor and the geological feature he was idenitified with (Hailes Cave).
