Geocache Description:

This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. This is a great spot to venture down to the water and sit lakeside with a picnic, or take some photos! Even though the name of this body of water says differently, Shaver Pond is actually considered a lake!

This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. There are 44 geocaches hidden within 11 state parks and state historic sites in the Saratoga/Capital District region, and geocachers finding them all will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. If you are interested in taking up the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites, or download the passport at www.nysparks.com.

This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache. Use this stamp to stamp your passport. This stamp is NOT a trade item. The items in the cache are park souvenirs and do not need to be replaced with a trade item.

To reach this cache you can drive your car down Shaver Pond Road and park in the lot before the Shaver Nature Center. You will only need to take the Shaver Nature Trail just a short distance to reach the cache, but we highly recommend doing the whole trail which is a loop of 1.8 miles around the beautiful Shaver Pond. There is also another cache (“Cache in Wonderland”) along this trail, so you might as well do them both. When you reach the first view, you know you are close. This is a great spot to venture down to the water and sit lakeside with a picnic, or take some photos! Even though the name of this body of water says differently, Shaver Pond is actually considered a lake!
