A short series of 7 caches celebrating the history of the Cistercian Monks of Stoneleigh Abbey following Public Footpaths between Bockendon Road / Crackley Lane and Westwood Heath Road. It is a lovely, picturesque walk and should take no longer than 40-60 minutes to complete. It includes a variety of cache sizes.
'Pools' Series was created by us as Bockendon and Westwood were part of the Manor of Stoneleigh. The name Bockendon is recorded from 1262. In the 1150s, Henry II gave land at Westwood Heath to the Cistercian Monks of Stoneleigh Abbey, for the purposes of farming and they established a farm at Bockendon Grange. Evidence of fish pools, created by the monks, still remains. hence the word Pools in our caches.
