Geocache Description:

Enjoy the fun of geocaching at night through this special event on the Reserve of the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association in Hopewell Township. Come armed with your GPS, a strong flashlight (with fresh batteries), and a good appetite for your final destination - our campfire!

Date: Saturday, June 30, 2012
Time: Starts at 8:00PM; Ends at 11:00PM
Place: The Watershed Nature Reserve

The Stony Brook-Milstone Watershed Association continues to host imaginative nature-based event caches throughout the year. THIS event promises to be another fun and memorable event. Calculated to provide you with an engaging nature experience as well as the comfort of a good old fashioned campfire (with goodies to eat and drink), this event starts at the edge of dark - D U S K.

Upon arrival, participants will be directed to the starting point, enjoying the gloaming and the sights and sounds of nocturnal nature as it slowly emerges – ie.  field crickets, fireflies, the big dipper. From there, you only need to use a good flashlight to navigate one of the easy-to-follow geo-trails to your final destination – a campfire with refreshments provided (donation requested).

The Watershed Reserve is open most days, dusk to dawn. The Reserve is NOT open during evening hours except for some special programs.  The 930-acre Reserve is home to the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House and the Honey Brook Organic Farm and hosts hundreds of educational programs annually. Watch for changes on the Reserve as the Association breaks ground to build a LEED Platinum-certified, energy-neutral environmental center encompassing the old Nature Center.

The Reserve offers a diversity of habitats including meadows, forests, wetlands, a small pond, streams and the Stony Brook. The rich assortment of wildlife includes red fox, skunks, opossum, flying squirrels, meadow voles, white tailed deer and much more. Habitat diversity makes this an ideal place for birdwatching – watch for grassland species in the new grasslands, ducks at the pond, as well as herons, hawks, and owls, and much more. The Stony Brook offers some great scenery and wildlife watching opportunities. The Stony Brook offers some great scenery, wildlife watching opportunities and a large assortment of programs.
