Geocache Description:

Quick stop at a new information pullout. Additional information at the webpage link above.

The Pony Express had a short-lived but fabled history.  Riders changing horses about every 10 miles made the ride from St. Joseph Missouri to Sacramento, California in 10 days or less.  The services were only used from April 1860 to October 1861.  The westbound riders came to this valley through the pass to the northeast and headed southwest to Fairfield (Camp Floyd) and then to what is now known as 5-mile Pass.  They then veered to the south a little before heading west into Nevada.  While this is pretty bare country, it was a much better ride than crossing the salt flats!!

Driving the trail is a great experience!
